Migration of Incoming Links

When converting from Scroll Versions or Scroll Translations to Scroll Documents, one of the challenges you might face is handling incoming links from other spaces in your Confluence system. During the conversion process, you have the option to rewrite these links so they point to the corresponding pages in the new Scroll Documents-managed space.

Incoming links are page links from other spaces in your Confluence system that lead to pages within your Scroll Versions or Scroll Translations-managed space. During conversion, you can choose to update these links to point to the new Scroll Documents-managed space instead. This ensures that users navigating your Confluence system are directed to the corresponding pages in the new Scroll Documents managed space.

Please note that the migrate links option is only capable of rewriting dynamic page links.

Dynamic links are created using Confluence's built-in Link feature and direct to other pages within the Confluence system. They differ from static web links, which continue to point to the configured URLs.

Before deciding to migrate incoming links, it’s important to assess their volume and significance. The Migration Report can help you identify spaces with a high number of incoming links to your managed space. If incoming links are a crucial part of your system’s functionality, migrating them can:

  • Avoid broken links or user confusion.

  • Ensure consistency across your Confluence system.

Migrating incoming links is a permanent action and cannot be undone. Once the links are rewritten, they will permanently point to the new Scroll Documents-managed space. Make sure this step aligns with your migration strategy before proceeding.

Before performing this action, it’s strongly recommended to back up your Confluence system. This backup serves as a safeguard in case you decide to revert any part of your migration process.

After the migration is complete, the Confluence logs will provide a list of the page IDs where links were rewritten. This information can be useful for tracking and verifying the changes.

This is how your should proceed if thinking about migrating incoming links:

  1. Analyze incoming links: Use the Migration Report to identify the volume of incoming links to the Scroll Versions or Scroll Translations-managed space.

  2. Decide to migrate: Determine if migrating the links aligns with your migration goals.

  3. Perform the migration: Initiate the link rewrite process after the new Scroll Documents-managed space has been created. This will update all dynamic page links to redirect to the corresponding pages in the new Scroll Documents-managed space.

  4. Verify changes: Review the Confluence logs to confirm the page IDs where links were rewritten.
